Follow in the footsteps of famous Lake District writers

Wordsworth House and Gardens, Cockermouth

The poet William Wordsworth called the English Lake District “the loveliest spot that man hath found,” and he is not alone as stunning scenery of the Lake District and Cumbria have influenced a great many writers and poets. Whilst staying at the Pheasant you can visit the homes of William Wordsworth, John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter or see the places that inspired Alfred Lord Tennyson, Edward Fitzgerald and Arthur Ransome.

Supporting Children’s Heart Unit Fund at the Freeman Hospital Newcastle

Children's Heart Unit Fund

Although Christmas seems long gone now, we were reminded last week when a lovely letter from the charity CHUF – Children’s Heart Unit Fund at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle - dropped through our door. The letter was thanking us for our donation of £250 which we made at Christmas time instead of sending cards to our wonderful friends, family and customers.

Even more dogs welcome at our Lake District Hotel

Garden Lodge Dog Friendly Room

Here at the Pheasant Inn if you are taking a break we think your dog should be able to join you so you can both ‘lap up’ the views of the Lake District. In fact, we think our four legged friends should be taken care of in the same way that we take care of our guests and are pleased to announce that we have not only completely refurbished our garden lodge dog friendly rooms but have added two further rooms where you are welcome with your pet.

Top 5 ways to spend Valentine’s Day in the Lake District

Brantwood House

The glow of winter sunlight, sparkling frost on the trees and atmospheric fells quite rightly make the Lake District in winter one of the most romantic destinations in England. Even if the sun doesn't shine there are plenty of cosy pubs and cafes where you warm up next to a roaring open fire with a drink or delicious slice of cake in hand.

Dodd Summit - the perfect winter walk in the Lake District

Dodd Wood by Chris J Coates

As the season to get fit is still upon us, we thought we would share one of our favourite local walks. Dodd Summit sits majestically across Bassenthwaite Lake from us here at the Pheasant Inn and is an ideal walk for winter, taking only 2-3 hours with good paths but has enough of a lung-buster ascent to burn off a few calories and make you feel like it is doing you some good!
