Christmas is a time for many traditions such as decorating the tree, hanging up stockings, making (and of course drinking!) mulled wine, giving presents and eating mince pies. One major tradition is the sending of Christmas cards which goes back to the Victorian Era with the first commercial Christmas card appearing in 1843.
However as much as we value the importance of sending wishes of peace and success to friends and customers alike, this year we have chosen not to send Christmas cards, but are instead making a donation to the Children's Heart Unit Foundation (CHUF). This is a charity that is very close to us personally, who raise money to buy equipment, facilities, aftercare and research for the Children's Heart Unit and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Freeman Hospital. Supporting CHUF helps children who are born with, or who develop life threatening heart conditions and if you would like to know more about their work please go to www.chuf.org.uk. So on behalf of everyone at the Pheasant Inn we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
With storm Desmond, the end of 2015 has been more eventful than we would have liked and it has been hard seeing the effects of flooding on our friends and colleagues. However, Cumbria and the Lake District are extremely resilient and despite the rain there has been a wonderful community spirit which has seen towns and roads re-open very quickly and a determination to not let a little - well a lot of - rain stop us. The Lake District is definitely open for business and we hope to see you here again soon.
2016 sees lots of exciting changes at the Pheasant. We will be moving back to ‘fine dining’ in the Fell Restaurant from 1st February and there will be a new menu in the Bistro. If the dark days of January sound a bit glum we do still have our winter TREAT offer with 2 and 3 night breaks starting at £68pppn including a dinner allowance. Although the weather might be a bit chilly, we've got a warm welcome, roaring log fires and mouth-watering menus to cheer a dark day up. You can even keep up your New Year resolutions with some winter walks. Find out more here or to book call 017687 76234 (not with on-line booking), quoting TREATS.
Thank-you very much for custom over the past 12 months and we would like to wish you a relaxing Christmas and a very happy 2016.
