The festive season is approaching and winter has officially started, but there are still lots to keep you entertained if you are visiting us in the Lake District this December. Here are our top 5 picks of things to do this yuletide season:

1. Inspiring Adventure: Antarctic Explorer & Lifetime Adventurer Tom Price. Exhibition at Keswick Museum, Keswick from now until 6 February

A fascinating array of artefacts, paintings, and information, representing the life and work of former Threlkeld resident and explorer Tom Price. He took part in a South Georgia Survey (the Price Glacier was named after him), a ski traverse of the Alps, a canoe traverse of Canada, and several other expeditions. The exhibition brings together a unique collection of items representing his life, including his Antarctic expedition sleeping bag and stove, which usually reside at the South Georgia Museum in Grytviken. 2. Victorian Fayre, Keswick, 6 December

The 29th annual Victorian Fayre is starts off the festive season with a warm glow. As well as live music, entertainment and seasonal cheer, there will be the sale of Christmas crafts, gifts, local produce, fashion accessories, along with hot and cold food and drinks, competitions and of course a visit from Santa. 3. Taste Cumbria Christmas Market, Cockermouth 12th December

A yuletide festival celebrating the very best of Cumbria’s produce, will take over Cockermouth and offer a Christmas market, cookery demonstrations and festive tastings, providing the perfect opportunity for some seasonal retail therapy. Find out more:

4. The Snow Queen, Theatre by the Lake, Keswick now until 16 January

A perfect play for the winter and the festive season. Hans Christian Andersen's magical tale of a young girl's quest to rescue her brother from the icy grip of the heartless Snow Queen. Find out more:

5. Boxing Day Classic Drive In Day, Lake District Motor Museum, Newby Bridge 26 December

Join hundreds of proud classic vehicle owners as they bring their private vehicles to display at the museum. The event is open to the proud owners of classic cars, trucks, vans and motorbikes, as well as more recent hot hatches, supermini's and high performance sports cars. There is no need to book and there is plenty of free parking for owners to display their pride and joy. Everyone is welcome and it's free to view the private vehicles outside in the museum's car park. The museum's indoor collection is open all day (admission required.)
