In our recent AA inspection, the great service and hospitality of our staff was praised by the Inspector. In particular, our trainee business manager Steven Hodgson was singled out and we thought we would introduce him to you by asking him a few questions. Steven has been working here as an apprentice since August 2016 when we were looking to give somebody local the opportunity to train to be a manager at The Pheasant Inn. He is passionate about great service and often gets complimented by our hotel and restaurant guests.
What do you like most about the job?
My favourite part of the job is meeting new people from all over the country. We have guests who travel hundreds of miles to Cumbria to see the Lake District. They enjoy both the peace and tranquility of the surrounding area and the high quality of service and hospitality offered during their stay at The Pheasant. I also enjoy being part of the fantastic team at the Pheasant, we all seem to pull together really well and the sense of camaraderie really helps.
What do you like least?
The thing that I find most challenging about the role is the long and unsociable hours that you are required to work but this however is offset by the fact that the job is so enjoyable.
Why did you want to do this job?
After leaving school I wanted to study Hotel Management as I had enjoyed working in another hotel previously. After completing my GCSEs I went to study a Level 3 Business Management course as an apprenticeship at a local collage, which ultimately led to me being offered an apprenticeship here at The Pheasant and I haven't looked back since.
What jobs have you done previously?
Aside from my studies, I have always worked in the hospitality industry. Before I began working at The Pheasant I worked at another local hotel here in Cumbria.
Any final thoughts?
Although the job is hard work it is also very rewarding - knowing that you have provided someone with a lasting great memory of The Pheasant Inn and the Lake District.
